Wi-Fi and Free Internet Service

Shields Library is open. Please consult Library Hours (or the Library homepage) for hours and current building occupancy.
Students with wireless phone service may consider adding a personal hotspot to their plan in order to create their own WiFi network from a smartphone. Most providers (e.g. Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon) offer personal hotspot service to be added to wireless plans for approximately $10 per month.
Several companies including Charter, Spectrum, and Comcast have announced plans to offer free internet service for 60 days to households with students as classes are moving online amid concerns about COVID-19. Please contact the companies at the phone numbers below to arrange services. Note: Eligibility may vary by individual service provider.

Need a Laptop?
Financial Aid and Scholarships can provide eligible undergraduate and graduate FAFSA filers and undergraduate CA Dream Act Filers at UC Davis with a computer loan for up to $2,500. This loan can be requested once during a student's academic pursuit at UC Davis: https://financialaid.ucdavis.edu/computer-purchase
If you need to return a laptop that you borrowed from the Laptop Loan program, please email ithelp@ucdavis.edu. The Laptop Loan team will then set up an appointment with you to return the laptop.
Questions about Duo multi-factor authentication?
Phishing attacks are a persistent threat to our campus community, particularly via email. In order to better protect students, IET has enabled Duo on DavisMail for all students, effective Oct. 22, 2021. Duo multi-factor authentication was rolled out to students earlier this year on multiple services. With Duo now enabled on DavisMail, students accessing Google applications via a web browser, including DavisMail, will be required to use Duo when logging in.
Canvas has a Google integration providing the ability to submit assignments directly from Google Drive. Now, when a student attempts to use the Google integration they will be prompted for a Duo login.
Students who do not have a smartphone can use a token (a small piece of hardware that generates the authentication code). Tokens can be purchased from UC Davis Stores ($29.99 + tax). If a student needs financial assistance, they can request a token using this Aggie Compass Basic Needs form.
